After pulling my left calf on Christmas Eve and coming down with Covid on boxing day, the Christmas training did not go well. So I rested, we even had a 3 night break in Lanzarote in the first week of the New Year.
The week after, I decided to take it slow and steady and short. I ran Wednesday and Thursday the second week of the year, only running a total of 4.4 miles. My post Covid lungs felt fine and my calf did too. On the Friday I had a sports massage, a day of rest on Saturday and up early on Sunday for my longest run for a couple of weeks.
We were only going to do 5 miles. 2.4 miles in, my right calf starts to twinge, I didn’t want to believe it was happening. I changed my stride pattern and foot strike, hoping the twinge would go away. Twenty meters later it became apparent that it wasn’t going to.
I called my partner to come and pick us both up. My training partner was suffering a bit with his post Covid lungs. I was gutted. I was also gutted for my training partner who, yet again, had to put up with a grumpy me moaning about yet another injury.
The following day I decided I needed to seek advice. I’ve done this and I’ll report back in a few days.
